After writing about why some online business teachers lose trust, I realized I should clarify something:

I do not hate online marketers.

I have been one.

There are bad actors in every business. Online education and marketing are not uniquely corrupt. But they do make it easy for weak offers, exaggerated promises, and shallow trust to scale quickly.

That is why language matters.

An upsell is not automatically manipulation. If someone buys one useful thing and you offer another genuinely relevant thing, that can be good service. Bait and switch is different. That is when the offer is advertised one way and then replaced with something else after trust has already been captured.

The problem is not marketing itself.

The problem is pretending a sales tactic is a relationship.

Good marketing helps the right people find the right offer and make a clear decision. Bad marketing hides the real cost, overstates the likely result, or treats beginners as an endless source of urgency.

As a buyer, your job is to stay awake. Learn what is useful. Skip what no longer fits. Do not turn any teacher into a substitute for your own judgment.
